Get Started - New Student Help!

Welcome to Oregon Connections Academy! I am your 3rd Grade Teacher, Mrs. Z!

Get started below!

Important Notes for New Families:

  • Our school is like a hybrid of homeschool and traditional school. We teach Oregon State and National Standards through a robust virtual curriculum.

  • We can be very flexible to meet students' needs in the virtual setting; all are welcome here!

  • This is by no means an "easy" program. We take learning very seriously!

  • The "Learning Coach", or "Caretaker", at home is Teacher #1. You teach your child every day and make sure learning is successful. â€‹I am teacher #2. I am here to guide you, check in, provide resources, and make sure students master all necessary concepts. In other words, you take care of the daily tasks, and I am here to help with everything else!

  • Daily lessons on the Planner = Attendance.

  • My Live Lessons provide a chance to cover learning material in real time, and for the students to socialize.

  • We provide small group intervention to assist students in reading and math.

  • I am all about making learning fun! I love to gamify activities and focus a lot on the student's experience. Read more about me here

Get Started! Steps for your First Day with ORCAP

All new students must complete a Welcome Call, agree to our school code, begin lessons and join Live Lesson to continue enrollment at Oregon Connections Academy. Your teacher will reach out to you to help you get started!

1. Get Your Computer & Supplies

You may begin early with a personal computer, or wait for a school provided laptop. Please communicate with your teacher if you need to wait and be excused from school until the school provided laptop arrives. Get school supplies listed here, and set up a quiet space where your student can complete daily lessons, and join our live video call, free of distractions.

Additional Learning Resources we use often can be found here!

2. Complete a Welcome Call with Your Teacher

You may schedule a Welcome Call with Mrs. Z here, or she will call you as soon as possible! Your teacher will discuss clas expectations, what Live Lesson time works best, and confirm you have our policies and are ready to begin your student's first day.

3. View the New Student and Learning Coach Checklist

The New Student and Learning Coach checklist is a school provided resources that makes sure you know how to use the Pearson Online Classroom by Connexus, navigate the online tools and access important pages to complete daily tasks and communicate with your teacher.

4. Complete Your First Day Present

To complete your first day present, you must do all of your daily lessons on the planner and join Live Lesson with Mrs. Z. To continue receiving attendance, your student is expected to complete all daily lessons and participate in class. If there are issues with attendance Mrs. Z will reach out and coordinate a meeting with our leadership team.
